Modification chip that makes HP Designjet 500, 510 and 800 printers accept ink cartridges they would otherwise reject, such as cartridges reported as empty or third-party cartridges. It makes the printer believe a full set of HP cartridges is always installed. Installation only needs the right end cover removed: no soldering and no permanent change to the printer.

Symptoms this fixes

Use it when you see:

"Ink cartridge empty" messages
An "X" on a cartridge in the display
The printer will not accept third-party cartridges

Note: Once the chip is installed the printer cannot tell whether cartridges are present. Never print with the cartridges removed, or the printheads will be starved of ink. The ink supply station still pressurizes the cartridges as usual, so normal printing is safe.

HP 500 Mod Chip worked

Installed the mod chip on my HP DesignJet 500. I looked at the images LPS has on the mod chip page. They are graphically correct. Took me about 30 min to install the mod chip. It worked. Thanks LPS.

Need instructions

No instructions came with chip phoned left vm waiting to hear back on how to install.
Did not see topic addressed in service manual.
