If your machine is telling you "Open window and check printhead cover is properly closed," the most likely cause is the upper frame on the ink tube system is cracked or broken. The printhead cover on the carriage locks into the lower latch in the ink tube system. If the lower latch is compromised, the machine will not function.

Watch the video tutorial for the repair procedure here.

If your ink tube system is leaking, or otherwise broken beyond repair, you can find the replacement ink tube systems here:

24" Ink Tube

Carriage Latch Repair hints

This works great, although I did have to do it twice due to my mistakes... Be aware that carbon fiber is very strong, but brittle, and the locking tabs can be easily broken if you pry too hard on them. The tabs on the purple latch piece must be filed down slightly, or it will not rotate in the lock without binding and eventually breaking. All in all, a very good product when installed properly.

I have used a few of these on the 500/800 and recommend it as a lifesaver for the obsolete but popular 500/800's
