NOTE: Some models, such as the Designjet 10ps, 20ps and 50ps printers, do not have the ability to configure the print server using the front control panel. If any other model is not listed in this document, it can be assumed that it does not have this ability. In addition, the following links will provide downloads for firmware upgrades and for creating print queues and configuring the Jetdirect print servers. Configurable TCP/IP parameters The following basic TCP/IP parameters can be configured using the front control panel of the printer. See the specific printer models headings below for the steps on how to change these.
Configuring TCP/IP on the HP Designjet 600, 650, 700, 750, 755, and CP series printers NOTE: A delay of approximately 30 seconds may be expected between each step.
10. Press the UP arrow once to get to the IP byte section. 11. To change the IP byte, proceed as follows:
12. Configure the remaining bytes of the IP address in the same manner. A valid IP address is required for proper operation. 13. Configure the subnet mask bytes (SM), syslog server IP address (LG), default gateway (GW), and timeout (TIMEOUT) by pressing the ENTER and the Up or Down arrows in the same manner as above. The timeout parameter default is 90 seconds. Up to 3,600 seconds can be configured. If set to zero, the timeout feature of the HP Jetdirect print server is disabled; TCP/IP connections will remain open until closed by the server. 14. Press PREVIOUS repeatedly, until the Ready to Plot or Ready message appears. Refer to the HP Jetdirect Network Interface Configuration Guide to configure the network operating system. 15. Press the Up and Down arrow keys simultaneously to save the IP address on a 750/755 plotter. (A page should print and the IP addresses will be saved.) To print a Service Configuration page from an HP Designjet 600, 650, 700, 750, 755 Print a Configuration, Service Configuration, or Service Print to verify the TCP/IP configuration:

Configuring TCP/IP on the HP Designjet 5000, 5500, 800, and 500 series printers NOTE: A delay of approximately 30 seconds may be expected between each step.
NOTE: If BOOTP=Yes, the printer is configured to retrieve its TCP/IP parameters over the network from a BOOTP, RARP, or DHCP server. If BOOTP=NO, the printer is configured to accept TCP/IP parameters from the Front Panel. 10. On HP Jetdirect print servers with firmware L.20.04 or greater, press the Up arrow key to until DHCP=yes appears. Press ENTER. 11. Press the Up arrow key to change to No. Press ENTER. 12. Press the Up arrow key until IP Byte1=xxx appears. 13. To change the IP byte, proceed as follows:
14. Configure the remaining bytes of the IP address in the same manner. 15. Configure the subnet mask bytes (SM), syslog server IP address (LG), default gateway (GW), and timeout (TIMEOUT) in the same manner. NOTE: When the HP Jetdirect print server is given a syslog server IP address, it can generate syslog messages and send them to that. If no syslog server is on the network, skip this setting. 16. The TIMEOUT parameter default is 90 seconds. Up to 3,600 seconds can be configured. If set to "0," the timeout feature of the HP Jetdirect print server is disabled -- TCP/IP connections will remain open until closed by the server. 17. To save this information:
To print a Service Configuration page from an HP Designjet 5000 or 5500
To print a Service Configuration page from an HP Designjet 800 and 500 For these HP Designjet printers with an optional HP-GL/2 accessory card :
Without the HP-GL/2 accessory card , the HP Designjet 500 will not produce a Service Print. However, some Jetdirect information is available by viewing the control panel. Follow the steps below to retrieve this information:
NOTE: If other Jetdirect information is needed, the Jetdirect card can be moved to a Designjet or LaserJet printer. Configuring TCP/IP on the HP Designjet 1050c, 1050c Plus, 1055cm, or 1055cm Plus front control panel when using a 600n card NOTE: A delay of approximately 30 seconds may be expected between each step.
10. Press the Up arrow to change to BootP=NO, then press ENTER. 11. Press the Up arrow until IP Byte1=xxx appears. 12. To change the IP byte (the first octet of the IP address), proceed as follows:
13. Configure the subnet mask bytes (SM Byte), syslog server IP address (LG Byte), default gateway (GW Byte), and timeout (TIMEOUT) in the same manner (Press ENTER to make the display read, Active Option, press the Up or Down arrows to change the octet of the IP address, then press ENTER). NOTE: The syslog server IP (LG Byte) is used only if there is a syslog server on the network. A syslog server is one that receives log messages from the HP Jetdirect print server. 14. Press the BACK button repeatedly until the display reads, Ready . This will save the TCP/IP addresses. Configuring TCP/IP on the HP Designjet 1050c, 1050c Plus, 1055cm, or 1055cm Plus front control panel when using a 610n, 615n, or 620n card NOTE: A delay of approximately 30 seconds may be expected between each step.
10. Press the Up arrow to change to BootP=NO, then press ENTER. 11. Press the Up arrow to DHCP=YES, then press ENTER. 12. Press the Up arrow to change to DHCP=NO, then press ENTER. 13. Press the Up arrow until IP Byte1=xxx appears. 14. To change the IP byte (the first octet of the IP address), proceed as follows:
15. 16. Press the BACK button repeatedly until the display reads, Ready. This will save the TCP/IP addresses. To print a Service Config from HP Designjet 1050c or 1050cm

NOTE: The CFG NETWORK = XXX (XXX being YES or NO) is a toggle, not a permanent setting. Changing it to YES allows the settings to be changed at that time . It will appear as CFG NETWORK = NO each time this menu is accessed.
NOTE: The CFG TCP/IP = XXX (XXX being YES or NO) is a toggle, not a permanent setting. Changing it to YES allows the settings to be changed at that time . It will appear as CFG TCP/IP = NO each time this menu is accessed.
NOTE: When using BootP or DHCP, keep the setting BOOTP = YES *. The BootP or DHCP server will configure the TCP/IP parameters on the HP Jetdirect. No other TCP/IP configuring is necessary. 10. Press SELECT or RESUME. The following two steps apply to the HP Jetdirect 610n cards only:
NOTE: When using DHCP, keep the setting DHCP = YES *. The DHCP server will configure the TCP/IP parameters on the HP Jetdirect. No other TCP/IP configuring is necessary. 11. Press SELECT or RESUME. 12. Press ITEM until IP BYTE 1 = (value*) appears. 13. Press the PLUS button or VALUE, until the desired value of the first byte of the IP address appears. By pressing and holding the PLUS button or VALUE, the value will scroll. 14. Press SELECT or RESUME to save the value. 15. Press ITEM to continue. Repeat Steps 11-13 to configure the remaining bytes of the IP address. 16. Repeat Steps 11-13 to configure the subnet mask bytes (SM BYTE 1=), syslog server IP address (LG BYTE 1=), default gateway (GW BYTE 1=), and timeout (TIMEOUT=). 17. Press ONLINE, GO or MENU. Print a self-test page to verify the IP settings. 18. If the test page does not show the correct settings, power cycle the printer and reprint the test page. |
